What Is Couples Therapy?

Couples therapy is unique in that it gives partners an opportunity to witness each other’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe space that might not currently exist in their daily lives. In our work together, I aim to help couples develop the individual insight and self-awareness necessary to understand, repair, strengthen their relationship. Through the lens of psychodynamic couples therapy, my approach focuses on understanding the underlying reasons behind each partner's actions and reactions to help couples can gain insight into why they interact in certain ways. I help facilitate discussions that allow partners to express their true feelings and vulnerabilities in a safe environment. This process has been found to create a deeper level of connection and intimacy between partners, as they learn to understand and empathize with each other's deepest emotional needs and take into account their history and background. It is my hope that partners will then feel more equipped to work together as a team when addressing their challenges and learn to prioritize the needs of their relationship.

I am a LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist and work with couples of all sexual orientations. I work with couples online throughout California and within Los Angeles including Culver City, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood. If you're feeling a bit unsure about couples therapy, but feel curious about the process, feel free to reach out for a 15 minute consultation where you can ask any questions you may have and learn more about the process.

Finding A Couples Therapist In Los Angeles

Researching Therapists

When searching for the right couples therapist, it's helpful to explore different therapeutic modalities to find what best suits your specific relationship's needs. Psychodynamic therapy can be particularly beneficial for couples looking to understand deep-rooted patterns and underlying motives that affect the relationship dynamics. It encourages a useful exploration of past experiences and their impact on present behaviors and emotions that might show up in your current or past partnerships. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that cause relationship issues. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), on the other hand, is designed to help couples create a stronger emotional bond and improve their attachment to one another. Each of these approaches offers unique benefits, so consider what your goals of therapy are as you identify the right type of therapist for you.
